ERIC - SAX

Eric Walschap is a Saxophone Instructor living in Norman, Oklahoma. He is a student at the University of Oklahoma, in his fifth year of pursuing a Music Education Bachelors Degree from the School of Music. Eric has studied under the Internationally Acclaimed Saxophonist Dr. Gail Hall for 4 years, and with Jazz Legends Bart Defoort and Pierre Viana of Libramont, Belgium.

In the School of Music, Eric is unrivaled in the amount of sheer volume of performance experience. A four year member of the Pride of Oklahoma (and 2 years as section leader), Lead Tenor in the Intercollegiate All-State Honor Band, Lead and Solo Tenor for the Mens Basketball Band, Lead Alto in the 2:30 Jazz Band, Bari Sax player for the Wind Symphony and Concert Band, Bassoonist for the Symphony Band and the Concert Band, and in 2007 gave one of the most memorable Senior Recitals in recent history.

Eric's teaching history is extensive, having taught saxophone, flute, music theory, jazz theory, and more for the past 6 years; with ages ranging from middle school all the way through adult. On top of the private lessons, Eric was also the Norman High School Basketball Band Director for 2 years, and the Norman High School Saxophone Choir Director for 4 years.

Eric's Professional Experience as a Saxophonist is also extensive. He has performed with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Talk of the Town Jazz Band, founder of the Soonerbelts Jazz Band, the Latin-Jazz bands El Fuego, Raices, Orquesta Ron y Ritmo, Alma Latina, Son Caribe, and Tierradentro, the ska bands Third Grade Scuffle and the Magnificent 7, and been featured in the band and on recordings for the University of Oklahoma Sooner Showmen, been a soloist for Dorian Small's album "Contradiction", and much more.

Along with being a Professional Saxophonist, Eric is one of only two wind instrument repairmen in the city of Norman, working under his mentor, Robert Polk at Axent Music.
